I first became aware of Just Mustard when i saw them supporting White Lies in The Button Factory, Dublin earlier this year. The first thing that struck me about them was their distinctive and unique style so i knew this was a band that deserved further investigation and a mention on our website!
So who are Just Mustard? They are a five piece band from Dundalk who play a unique blend of noise, trip hop, and electronic influenced music. The band is fronted by the charismatic Katie Ball or KT as she usually refers to herself who is only 22 years old and was previously doing film studies in Dublin. On guitar and backing vocals we have David Noonan. He often harmonizes with Katie and their voices blend very well together. Bassist is Rob Clarke and drummer is Shane Maguire. The band have been friends since they were young teenagers and have been Just Mustard for six years.
In 2018 Just Mustard released their first album which was entitled Wednesdays. This was the first album to be released on a newly formed label based in Dundalk, Pizza Pizza Records. As the band had already acquired a following locally form playing a number of events and pubs, fans were eager to buy the album.
Just Mustard’s music not only caught the attention of Dundalk locals however, since beginning to release their music they have been support acts for a number of very well known bands such as The Cure when they played in Dublin this year which Katie described as a surreal experience as all the band are Cure fans and have previously described them as one of the bands main influences.
They are currently touring England and Ireland and are definitely worth checking out. If you’re interested in seeing them after reading this they will be playing in The Button Factory on Saturday 21st of December so be sure to head along!
